What is an SSL?
It is a cryptographic protocol designed to provide communications security over a computer network.
Websites need SSL certificates to keep user data secure or verify ownership of the website, prevent attackers from creating a fake version of the site etc.
Why Do I Need an SSL for my domain?
SSL / HTTPS is recommended for all websites on the internet. Bear in mind it is absolutely required for all websites that collect user information like login details, payment information, credit cards and more.
If we abstain from the tech protocols: nobody likes to press the button that puts the weight of the responsibility on the user and the user rather not risk to open unsafe (according to the browser) website. Sometimes the browser will just block a non-SSL domain from opening.
How do I get an SSL certificate for my website?
When you are using our .ART website builder the SSL certificate installs and renews automatically when you activate the sitebuilder. If it is not installed in auto mode please contact our support team at support@get.art
In case you are using external webhosting provider you should consult with their support if the action is not automated.
If you are using own server/webserver you can install it in your web hosting control panel for free (for example a free Cloudflare SSL certificate) or buy one from Comodo or other SSL certificate providers depending on your needs and requirenments. On how exacty install the certificate you should consult with the corresponding manuals of the webpanel and the certificate provider.
How do I check if and which SSL certificate is installed on the website?
1. Open the website. To the left of the domain address you will see a sealed lock icon.
In case the icon is red and crossed it means the website uses HTTP instead of HTTPS protocol and considered not safe.
2. To access the SSL details press on to the lock icon and then the "safe connection".
3. Press on "Valid Certificate" and you will see the details of the certificate. It will contain the data to which domain name the certificate had been issued to, who issued the certificate and the expiration date.
Bear in mind that the SSL certificate on the website does not guarantee that you are 100% safe from carding, phishing etc. and only input sensitive information if you are sure that it will not fall into the wrong hands.
